eSIM for Sri Lanka and the Maldives: One Plan or Two?

Most eSIM plans that cover Sri Lanka don't cover the Maldives. Of the four eSIM apps we track, only Yesim's Global Plus plan includes both countries, from $28.80 for 5 GB. With Airalo, Holafly or Saily, you buy one plan for each country. For a week in each, that can cost less and give you more data than one plan.

Which eSIM apps cover both countries?

Can one eSIM cover Sri Lanka and the Maldives?

Yes, with Yesim's Global Plus plan, which lists Mobitel in Sri Lanka and Dhiraagu in the Maldives. When we checked on Oct 13, 2026, the Asia and global plans from Airalo, Holafly and Saily all included Sri Lanka but not the Maldives. Their Maldives coverage is sold only as a separate Maldives plan.

Three ways to set it up

One plan for both

Yesim Global Plus. One install and one balance for the whole trip. Best if you want the least fuss and a modest amount of data.

Watch: the data is shared across both countries

Two plans from one app

A Sri Lanka plan and a Maldives plan from Airalo, Holafly, Yesim or Saily. More data for the money, and each country gets its own allowance.

Watch: Airalo's Maldives plan needs an ID check

Local Maldives plan + Sri Lanka eSIM

A Dhiraagu or Ooredoo tourist eSIM for the Maldives, plus any Sri Lanka eSIM. The Maldives plan includes local minutes for guesthouses and boat transfers.

Watch: Dhiraagu's $40 plan lasts 10 days

Switching from Sri Lanka to the Maldives

  1. Install every eSIM at home, on Wi-Fi, before you fly. Complete any ID check then too.
  2. In Sri Lanka, set the Sri Lanka line (or Global Plus) as your mobile data line.
  3. When you land at Velana, switch mobile data to your Maldives line. With Global Plus, there's nothing to switch.
  4. Set data roaming as each provider asks. Holafly and Saily ask you to turn it on for their line; Airalo's Maldives eSIM doesn't need it.

Once you're in the Maldives, coverage works the same whichever plan you chose. Our Maldives eSIM coverage guide covers resorts, local islands and transfers.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one eSIM that covers Sri Lanka and the Maldives?

Yes, but few cover both. Of the four eSIM apps we track, only Yesim's Global Plus plan includes both countries, from $28.80 for 5 GB over 30 days. Airalo, Holafly and Saily cover Sri Lanka in their Asia and global plans but leave out the Maldives, so with them you buy one plan for each country.

Do Asia eSIM plans include the Maldives?

Usually not. When we checked on Oct 13, 2026, the Maldives wasn't in Airalo's Asialink plan, Holafly's Asia plan, Saily's Asia and Oceania plan or Yesim's Asia Pacific plan. All four include Sri Lanka. Always open the country list before you buy a regional plan.

Which networks does Yesim Global Plus use in Sri Lanka and the Maldives?

Yesim's coverage details list Mobitel in Sri Lanka and Dhiraagu in the Maldives. We haven't tested the plan ourselves, so this comes from Yesim's own page. In the Maldives, Dhiraagu is also the network behind Airalo's and Holafly's Maldives plans.

Is it cheaper to buy two eSIMs for Sri Lanka and the Maldives?

Often, if you want plenty of data. For a week in each country, Airalo's two country plans cost $50.50 together and give you separate allowances in each country. Yesim Global Plus costs $46.80 for 10 GB shared across both, and you only install one eSIM.

Can I keep a Sri Lanka eSIM and a Maldives eSIM on the same phone?

Most eSIM phones can store several eSIMs, though only one or two can be active at once, depending on the model. Install both at home, then switch your mobile data to the Maldives line when you land at Velana. Delete the Sri Lanka eSIM only once you're sure you won't need it again.

Should I use a local Maldives SIM after Sri Lanka?

It's a good option if you'll make local calls. Dhiraagu's $40 tourist eSIM includes 150 minutes of local calls and lasts 10 days, which helps on local islands. Pair it with a cheap Sri Lanka eSIM for the first half of the trip.
