Holafly's Maldives eSIM gives you unlimited data on Dhiraagu, from $32.90 for 3 days to $199.50 for 30 days. It's data only, with no local number. That suits heavy data users on a short trip. For most stays of a week or more, a local tourist eSIM gives you plenty of data for less.

Holafly Maldives prices by trip length

Holafly's checkout lets you pick the number of days. These are the trip lengths it lists in US dollars on its Maldives page, with the cost per day worked out for you.

How we make money: some providers pay us a commission if you buy through our links. It doesn't change the price you pay, and it doesn't decide which plans we include or recommend. Details.

Trip lengthPricePer day
3 days$32.90$10.97
5 days$43.90$8.78
7 days$53.90$7.70
10 days$84.90$8.49
15 days$128.90$8.59
30 days$199.50$6.65

The 30-day plan works out cheapest per day. The price per day doesn't fall steadily, though: the 7-day plan costs less per day than the 10-day or 15-day ones. If your trip is close to a cutoff, compare the next length up and down before you pay.

What "unlimited" means on Holafly

Is there any limit on Holafly's Maldives eSIM?

There's no data cap on your phone. Holafly says the network's fair usage policy can reduce your speed for up to one day in rare cases. Hotspot sharing is limited to 1 GB a day, so a 7-day plan includes up to 7 GB for other devices. There's no local number: calls and messages go through apps.

The hotspot cap is the one to watch. If you plan to work from a laptop on your phone's connection, unlimited data on the phone won't help much. Resort and guesthouse Wi-Fi is the better route for laptop work.

Holafly or a local tourist eSIM?

Here's Holafly next to Dhiraagu's tourist plans, which run on the same network. Prices and details come from each company's own site.

HolaflyDhiraagu tourist plans
One week$53.90, unlimited data$40, 20 GB (lasts 10 days)
Two weeks$128.90, unlimited data$50, 30 GB plus 70 GB social (lasts 30 days)

On a two-week trip, Holafly costs $78.90 more than Dhiraagu's Traveler Premium. That premium buys you unlimited data instead of a large but fixed allowance. Many travelers won't get through 30 GB of regular data in two weeks, especially with resort Wi-Fi in the evenings.

Holafly is a good fit if

  • You stream, upload video or video call a lot, and don't want to count gigabytes
  • Your trip is short, so the total price stays reasonable
  • You already use Holafly elsewhere and like its app and support

A local plan is better if

  • You're staying a week or longer and want to spend less
  • You'll call guesthouses, dive centers or boat captains on local numbers
  • You need to share more than 1 GB a day with a laptop

Setting up Holafly for the Maldives

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and isn't locked to your home carrier.
  2. Buy the plan and install the eSIM at home, on Wi-Fi.
  3. When you land at Velana, switch the eSIM on and set it as your mobile data line.
  4. Turn on data roaming for the Holafly line. Holafly asks for this, and the plan's days start counting from here.

Coverage at sea is the same for every eSIM on Dhiraagu: good near inhabited islands, patchy in between. Our Maldives eSIM coverage guide explains what to expect at resorts, on local islands and on transfers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Holafly work in the Maldives?

Yes. Holafly sells a Maldives eSIM with unlimited data, and its Maldives page names Dhiraagu as the network it uses. Holafly says you'll have a connection on most inhabited islands, at resorts and in tourist areas, and that coverage can be weaker on remote islands and during boat or seaplane journeys between atolls.

Is Holafly really unlimited in the Maldives?

There's no data cap, but there are two limits. Holafly says the network's fair usage policy can slow your speed for up to a day in rare cases, and hotspot sharing is limited to 1 GB a day. For normal phone use on holiday, neither is likely to get in your way.

Does the Holafly Maldives eSIM come with a phone number?

No. Holafly's Maldives eSIM is data only, with no local number for regular calls or texts. You can still call and message through apps like WhatsApp and FaceTime, and keep your home SIM switched on for texts to your usual number.

Can I use Holafly as a hotspot in the Maldives?

Yes, up to 1 GB a day. Holafly says the total you can share depends on the plan length, so a 7-day plan includes up to 7 GB of hotspot data. If you need to connect a laptop for work every day, that cap matters more than the unlimited headline.

When does the Holafly plan start counting days?

Holafly says the plan begins once you arrive and turn on the eSIM, and each day runs for a full 24 hours from that point. You can install it at home before you fly. Holafly also asks you to turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.

Is Holafly cheaper than a local Maldives tourist eSIM?

Usually not. For a week, Holafly costs $53.90, while Dhiraagu's Traveler Lite costs $40 for 20 GB over 10 days and includes local calls. Holafly makes more sense if you'll use a lot of data on a short trip, or want unlimited data without counting gigabytes.
